The South Channel Ratepayers and Residents Association Inc. SCRRA

The South Channel Ratepayers and Residents Association (SCRAA) meets on the 2nd Wednesday monthly at the Community Hall, McDowall St, Middleton. All Residents & Ratepayers are welcome to attend. Meetings commence at 2pm and run for around 2 hours.cornerview.jpg

The Association was formed in 1975 and its charter, as stated in its Constitution, is
“The co-ordination of projects and activities of benefit to the South Channel community and to provide a forum for the discussion of matters of community interest."

SCRRA has been responsible for many community achievements over the years, including the erection and dedication of the Bushfire Memorial at the corner of Beach Rd and Channel Highway, a BBQ enclosure for the tennis court which is available free for community use, a History Walk which enables visitors to walk a path of 10 sites marked by pedestal indicators displaying historical photographs and the history of that site (direction brochures are available free from the local store), and improvements to the Gordon Reserve such as improved placement of picnic tables and camping sites. Full assistance is given to the local volunteer fire brigade.

SCRRA has an excellent relationship with the Kingborough Council. This close liaison results in many things being achieved which often go undetected by the general public, such as the recent upgrade of the community hall kitchen to commercial kitchen status, and a new disabled toilet facility in its grounds.

For many years, the Middleton Country Fair was the largest and best know activity of SCRRA. It was held annually on the first Saturday of February as the main fundraiser for the Association. It boasted well in excess of 2,500 people attending between the hours of 10am and 4pm with money raised used to further enhance the activities of the area. Following COVID, where the event was unable to be held for 3 years, and with a change of committee, it has now evolved into Middleton on the Green, held on the same weekend but focussing on providing the local community with a fun, family day event.

The SCRRA's calendar also features regular events and functions of a social nature for the enjoyment of members and their friends. These include the Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council, Wags & Snags, community barbecues, quiz nights and wine & cheese gatherings.

The current SCRRA committee members are President: Gloria Lonergan, Vice President: Carey Barlow, Secretary: Helen Hale-Gledhill, and Treasurer: Margaret Stubbs.

SCRRA can be contacted on 03 6292 1385. For more info or if you would like to come along to a meeting please phone or email.
